Experiencing Generative AI – A Gamified Introduction
by Oliver Zeigermann, Kim Nena Duggen
In this interactive workshop, we invite you to step away from the keyboard and dive into the world of Generative AI—using only pen, paper, scissors, and tape. Together, we will build a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system, with participants simulating its components as part of a team-based game.
Working in groups, you will take on roles such as large language models (LLMs), retrievers, or users, and act out the workflows that underpin Gen AI systems. This hands-on, playful format transforms technical challenges into tangible, memorable experiences, while highlighting the often-overlooked aspects of user experience (UX) when working with uncertainty and dynamic information.
During the workshop, we will:
– Experience the collaboration (and occasional confusion) between LLMs, retrievers, and users
– Explore the limits of information retrieval and generation—by acting them out
– Confront the realities of UX in Gen AI, including handling uncertainty and ambiguity in user interactions
– Reflect on the human side of data quality, communication, and system design
– Gain a deeper understanding of the practical and conceptual challenges in Gen AI development
No technical background is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to play. Join us to gamify Gen AI, tackle its challenges together, and discover how UX is at the heart of building intelligent systems.
