The Heart of Agile, Now With AI

by Alistair Cockburn

Agile has become too complicated. It started off as 4 simple values, but grew to something that takes weeks of training and thousands of $$ to get accredited in. It was never supposed to be that way.

In 2015, manifesto co-creator Dr. Alistair Cockburn distilled it to its essence, just 4 words: Collaborate, Deliver, Reflect, and Improve.

With these four words, you can apply the ideas of agile to any type of initiative. The “Heart of Agile” simply makes the work of teams more effective, no matter the assignment. So far, so good.

However, AI upended much of the agile practice set. If you can prototype in minutes and deploy in an hour, what’s the point of the ScrumMaster and the daily stand-up meeting?

To pick up this question, the day will start off with you working in small teams to develop some application using your favorite AI tool. From that experience, you will be able to look at the topics in the Heart of Agile: how to improve your team’s effectiveness in micro-steps; how to improve collaboration using the 16 “collaboration cards,” and discuss how AI tools change team structures and conversations.

Learn the true, simple form of agile, and see how AI reshapes teamwork.
